2 cups flour
¼ cup butter
1 tbs. baking powder
2/3 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
¼ tsp. salt
1 cup raisins
Heat oven to 350°F. In mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Mix well. Cut in ¼ cup butter with fork or pastry blender. Mixture should be crumbly. Beat egg and mix with buttermilk. Stir together buttermilk mixture and flour mixture. Add raisins and blend well. Place dough on floured board and knead gently. If dough is sticky, dust with flour and knead again. On board, shape dough into circular loaf about ¾-inch thick. Place the loaf on an ungreased baking sheet and cut into 8 pie wedges (do not pull wedges away from loaf). Bake at 350°F for approximately 20 minutes. Scones should be lightly browned. Be careful not to burn bottoms. Serve warm with soft butter.
