Members of the Fairfield County 4-H have organized their annual service project to benefit American troops stationed overseas. The goal of the community wide project is to assemble 100 ‘goodie bags’ filled with items selected from the soldiers’ wish lists.
4-Hers are asking the community to support their efforts with donations made by September 15. All donors will be listed. The drop-off sites are located at the UCONN Fairfield County Extension Center, 67 Stony Hill Road, Bethel (9-5, Monday – Friday), CT’s Beardsley Zoo, Nobel Avenue, Bridgeport (Main Gate, 9-4, any day), and Monkeyhead Comics, 273 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel (most days, noon-7).
Some of the items on the list include CD’s, DVD’s, puzzles, hard candy, deflated soccer balls and basketballs – and pins to inflate them, toothpaste and tooth brushes, silly putty, used paperback books, frisbees, chewing gum, peanut butter, instant soups, note pads, sun block, playing cards, AA batteries, etc.
4-H is the youth development component of UCONN Cooperative Extension System. For additional items needed by the troops or for more information, call (203) 207-3264 or www.fairfieldcounty4h.org.
