Connecticut Grown

It was a little late getting here this year, but summer has finally made an appearance in Fairfield County. – And with the warmer weather, Connecticut farmers are harvesting their crops as fast as is humanly possible.  It is defiantly prime time for CT produce, and the local farm stands, farm markets and farmer’s markets are open for business!

There is no excuse for not buying the locally grown crops from these vendors.  Gone are the days that you had to drive miles to find a farm market or stand.  Today, almost every town and city has at least one day a week that farmers set up a table on the town green or church parking lot to sell their harvest. And farm markets, boasting ‘CT Grown,’ dot the main routes of most communities. – The crops at these farms and markets are fresher than anything you can buy in a supermarket.  All were probably picked that morning.

It is important to the survival of the area farms that consumers buy their crops. Remember, this is their livelihood; and without local support, the land where they plant the crops today might become a subdivision tomorrow.

Until next month.
