County Flood Damage Appeal Seeks Damage Reports

As a result of the denial by President Barak Obama for Individual Assistance for five counties due to March floods in Connecticut, including Fairfield County, Governor M. Jodi Rell has requested losses by residents be filed with the state’s Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Following the denial, the governor directed this department to prepare an appeal of the president’s decision.  It is vital to this appeal that county residents impacted by the flooding report the extent of damages to State DEMHS (phone, 211 or online, www.211).  Fairfield County residents and businesses are asked to report damages even if they have already done so.

Connecticut’s director of Emergency Management, William Hackett, emphasized that this information submitted by residents and businesses is not an application for assistance

If the appeal is successful, the state will receive the funding and the residents who suffered losses will then be able to apply for assistance.
