TRUMBULL – The voices of concerned residents have been heard loud and clear by FuelCell Energy, Inc in regard to their plans to locate a 3.4 megawatt generator on Huntington Turnpike, in the Nichols section of the town.
Trumbull’s state delegation, Representatives T.R. Rowe (R-134) and Tony Hwang (R-134) and Senator Anthony Musto (D- 22), announced that an agreement had been reached with the Danbury-based company to relocate the project.
“This is a win-win situation and I am very pleased with the result,” commented state Representative Rowe. “Ultimately, fuel cell technology is good for Connecticut and FuelCell Energy acted as a good and resposible corporate citizen in listening to the community’s concern.”
The relocation of the generator was dependent on legislative and government agency support. New legislation was enacted to allow FuelCell Energy to select an alternate site without having to initiate a new permit application process.
The company initiated the approval process for the Huntington Turnpike site – at the existing natural gas letdown station – in 2007. The project is designed to help Connecticut with its growing demand for electricity while lessening carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants detrimental to the environment.
