Flagpole Restoration Underway

NEWTOWN – One of the most famous of Newtown landmarks, the flagpole, is currently being restored by the Valley Restoration of Torrington.  The 100 foot metal pole, which replaced its wood predecessor on January 23, 1950, will be sanded, repainted and its ropes replaced. The ball-styled finial that sits on the pole’s top will also be refreshed with a new golden finish.

Town resident David Lydem has been attending to the condition of the landmark for the past 25 years.  The cost of the restoration is funded by donations.
